Hello Bridget, Spankings should always result in tears, that is how you know it is working. When I spank my son Tyler who is 13, it takes him a while to cry. For his age, his pain tolerance is somewhat high I have noticed. Typically after i switched from hand to hairbrush, he will be in tears for a in a few minutes. By the end of his punishmnet he is hysterically sobbing and begging mommy to be good. His spanking are usually 7 to 15 minutes depending on his behavior or reason for spanking. Once he is sobbing and the spanking is getting through to him I continue for few more minutes to make sure he is getting a nice sore bottom. If your son’s bottom isn’t red and he isn’t crying begging mommy to stop then it isn’t a real punishmnet in my book. How do you spank your boys, Tyler goes over my lap in his room with my hand and hairbrush. On occasion I have switched it up to the belt or ping pong paddle for major spankings. Best of luck
