Yes, boys and bedtimes, it has been a battle here as well, a battle they will never win thats for sure but it doesn't stop them does it. I think you handled this just right. Your son is the same age as my oldest boy Brian.

We have 3, Julie is 13 Brian 11 and James is 9 both of our boys have also been spanked for sneaking Nintendo Switch in bed and playing past bedtime, and a couple times just as your Adam did after arguing about bedtimes. They have also been spanked more than a few times each for having a tantrum at bedtime for not going up to bed while arguing.

Also for not staying in bed.

They will cuddle after and then they sleep just like you boy did.

Julie has not yet been spanked because of bedtimes, she has of course tried to 'negotiate" her bedtimes she says I'm not arguing I'm negotiating, I tell her ok but you know I am not changing your bedtime we have talked about this plenty of times so stop now. There has been a couple times were she has been swatted 5 times for 'negotiating' and not letting it go, but she stops and heads off to bed but not happy.
