I'm new here, pleased to meet you all! I am a mother of 3 (two girls age 9 and 7, one boy age 5) and I live in a more southern state of the USA. Most of my family lives around me, too, but a few live in different areas further north or east of me.

I do spank my children, and like many of you here and many people in my church, I spank bare bottom. Mostly with my hand but also with a hairbrush and a wooden spoon, til those butts are red and I'm sure they have learned their lessons! However, I saw a post by my aunt on Facebook (who lives further north) where she got into an argument with some friends of hers about spanking bare bottom vs on clothes. Many of her friends opposed it, but myself and her of course supported it. Is is how we were raised and it worked well for us, and it works for our children. But one of her friends stated that doing spankings bare was "antiquated" and "very rare" and a bunch of people agreed with her...

So I ask: is it really all that uncommon? Where I am from, I do not believe it is since I know other families that do spank bare bottom, but is it really THAT uncommon elsewhere? Is it really a regional thing? I feel like it is the only safe and effective way to spank.
