I love funny little stories about spanking like this. I took it as a good sign that Jack could joke about his own spankings - it showed he wasn't traumatised by them.

His first hairbrush spanking was for ignoring countless warnings for treading mud into the house. I was less worried about the mud than I was about him thinking it was OK to ignore Mum. After that, every time I reminded him about wiping his feet, he would rub his bottom and say "I remember!"

Then there was the time when the man who brought our firewood had let us down and we had been making jokes about having to burn the furniture. Jack had taken my "special" hairbrush out of the drawer and put it on top of the basket of logs by the fire. He was only nine, so he almost burst waiting for me to notice.

And if he was in the right mood, then a play spanking was just about the funniest thing in the world when he was that age. Boys are funny animals, but I like them.
