The brownrider tapped Synthis’s shoulder. [She doesn’t understand signs.] M’att told her quickly, almost all his attention focused on Lily. He had learned the language from a man at a Hold where he was fostered – one that Lily hadn’t been sent to. Their parents thought it best to separate the twins, and so M’att had been sent to a sea-Hold, and Lily elsewhere.

But M’att went pale at his sister’s words. He looked as though he’d been slapped. “Is that what you think?” He asked her quietly, voice full of hurt. “You think I raped Synthis?” He was torn between anger that she would barge in here and think that, and hurt that his own sister would think him capable of such a thing. Hurt won. “How could you think that? I…I’d never…”

My rider, Ashertith stressed this as he spoke to Xanth. Was comforting a greenrider who will hopefully be his weyrmate. The brown drew himself up to his full height and did his best to glare at Lily and J’xom, making his voice heard by them all. And if you think I would choose a rapist, or let him hurt someone, then you are sorely mistaken.

M’att shot a grateful smile at his dragon, but it was short-lived. “Lily, you know me! You know I couldn’t do something like that!”
