Yes I completely understand. My daughter almost never wears socks outside. She is barefoot 90% of the time.
The anecdote I have just told is an exception.
However, she may only wear socks in cold and dry weather.
Otherwise, she will either be barefoot or with minimalist shoes in case of extreme temperature. But this is very rarely the case.

My son plays rugby and is therefore barefoot. His feet have become very sturdy. It can easily cover any surface. (Gravel, sidewalk, asphalt etc.)
This is also the case for my daughter who practices dancing.

In stores, they will always be barefoot. They also find it pleasant when the weather is hot because the cold ground refreshes their feet. However, it is often in shopping centers that their feet get dirty the most.
They also get quite dirty on public transport. In this case, it does not bother me because it is often city dust. Although this will turn their feet black, there is no risk.
They were never hurt. They know how to be careful.

At school, they are also barefoot all the time except in very cold weather.
They don't need shoes.
In class, almost half of the students are on their feet. It must be said that it is very common here in South Africa. This also depends on the region but it is generally accepted.

My parents are farmers, so that’s where I get this culture of being barefoot.
Back then, we were always barefoot because it was much easier to clean our feet than our shoes. Shoes were therefore optional.
We have no problem being barefoot in the henhouse and in the stables for example.
