Both my husband and myself wear shoes when going out, and slippers at home. We would get cold feet otherwise. But our son, still in toddler age, had a habit of getting rid of his socks whenever he could. So at some point I gave up and let him go barefoot as he preferred. At first I was afraid he'd get sick but he developed just fine, our daughter soon followed him. First at home, then also on warm days at the playground, in the garden and around the house.
They are both in primary school now. We made it a house rule that inside the house all children go barefoot, including their guests. They take off their shoes and socks at the door, or if they went barefoot outside, wash their feet.
