This makes autumn much more enjoyable!
We recently went on a hike together, while my husband and I put on our hiking boots the children delightfully wiggled and splayed their bare toes in anticipation and went ahead of us during much of the trip, full of energy and joy as they rustled in the crunchy leaves of fall piling up on the trail. It was pretty chilly in the beginning but certainly not too cold and when the sun came out we actually experienced a bit of late summer.
While other parents take their children to the shoe stores to get them something for the fall and winter, our three are all convinced they don't need anything. We got them new pants though (in "perfect length for bare feet") and outdoor jackets, just in case there's a drizzle.
I think it's quite nice that going barefoot also encourages them to go out more and enjoy the outdoors, regardless of the seasons!
