Subject: Miss Ohio Vol results

Where was the representation in the judges panel… so many older women that weren’t minorities. Not to mention so involved in MAO.

It definitely showed in the results. Every finalist and judge given award was a part of MAO.

[> Subject: Where do you think pageant contestants and judges come from? The MAO girls have far more competitive state pageant experience than the others. Three months ago, Bailey was 3RU at Miss Ohio and was 2RU in 2022. Mackenzie was 1RU to Miss Ohio in 2021, so she would have won if Oliveri hadn't arranged things for Lora Current. Ava was 4RU to MO that year also, and has been 1RU at Miss Ohio Volunteer 3 times now.

It was a good competition-- there is huge potential on that stage, they just need some direction & polishing.

[> Subject: I like that they have a type: old, average looking, and state (or country) hopping. Volunteer is as rigged as MAO. Ava should’ve won this year with 50% of top overall preliminary scores. I liked Makenzie better LC’s year, now she’s just LC.

[> [> [> [> Subject: That’s true but teen got one and Miss practiced that in rehearsal. Mackenzie won talent but if anyone else won interview she wouldn’t be the rightful winner. I do think she won fairly but if all other areas of competition are awarded separately then it makes sense for that to be given too. I’m more curious as to why Baylee and Jacinda didn’t do better, especially since Jacinda was their sweetheart. I hope Mackenzie builds this program up. I thought Brittany was great but their numbers went way down and there’s a pattern of only a few girls coming back. I know since it’s a new program it’s a short pattern but still they should be building numbers every year. I think Ava can go back to Sweetheart after skipping a year. She should before she retires.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: It never works this way, as scores are never the same across the board across all the judges, but let's pretend the award winners got 10pts from each of the 5 judges. So Ava wins ss & eg= 100 pts; Mac wins talent= 50pts.
You say if MAC didn't win interview (& get another 50pts) that means she wouldn't be the rightful winner. Ah, but you didn't recognize that Ava competed in interview & talent as well & Mac in ss & eg. You gotta add those points too!
What if Ava got 6-7 in interview, 6-7 in talent- btw, her performance this time wasn't as polished or energetic. It wasn't bad, but I didn't really remember it and didn't care to see it again. Mac won talent at MO, so clearly it's a solid winner. Now let's say Mac's interview was 8-9; ss 5-6, eg 7-8. See how when the other scores are added IT'S TOTALLY POSSIBLE FOR MAC TO WIN-- on points.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: Ah, but judging is NOT done after stage competitions! ALL THE POINTS ARE THROWN OUT for the T5 and the judges are asked to rank them based on who they feel would be the best titleholder. That's where, along with the competitions, all the intangible factors add up.
Ava shines in glamour competitions; has a good talent; and as it's been discussed here, comes off wrong in interview. Macs got the winning talent, impeccable resume, solid future, and comes off as intelligent & relatable. She's very poised & understandably put on weight during law school at Hogwarts, but that can be dealt with in the next 8 1/2 months. You can change ss & eg in that time, improve a trained talent- as demonstrated by Brittney who took her talent from meh to a good 8 in competition, but you can't make someone smart and likable or coach an untrained talent into an above average one in that time, if ever.

[> [> Subject: My favorite didn’t win. It must have been rigged. That’s the only answer. In fact, I think every pageant ever that hasn’t had the girl I like best has been rigged. I bet you they’ll rig it forever and they don’t believe it’s in the best interest of their program to have the girl who impressed the judges the most to win. No, instead it must be rigged. That’s the only answer.

[> [> [> [> Subject: Oh shut up and sit down Emily. We all know it’s you who always says everything is rigged when either you or a girl you think is a friend (AMM) don’t win. You’re not sour grapes you’re just sour. Here’s the facts: you’re pretty, stupid, talentless, a backstabbing gossip and a stuck up know it all. The last ones are why you’ll never win a state title in any system anywhere, otherwise you could try USA. You don’t have the self discipline to be a state titleholder. The pageant girls you think are your friends are not. They’re just smart enough to know it’s better to have you as a fake friend than a shit starting enemy. You’re a horribly mean person who really needs to work on herself rather than posting about who didn’t deserve to win here.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: Maybe people shouldn’t talk bad about whichever Emily or anyone else. Talk about their pageant performance (one I don’t think even competes anymore) not badmouth them personally. Both of them have professional careers and serious relationships so I don’t think either should be smeared on a forum and neither should anyone else. It doesn’t make the girl look bad. It makes the poster look bad. As someone who has competed I’ll tell you it’s the ones that come off the best who will stab you in the back!

[> [> [> [> Subject: Here are some patterns you missed: the last two winners are very well educated- Mac has an IB in business & is an attorney, soon to be lawyer; Brittney is a practicing attorney. Both are serious, well spoken candidates, who come across as very nice, which I think they are. Brittney's Miss Congeniality award at the national pageant surely backs that up.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: But if that’s what Volunteer wants in a titleholder, why have the girls do a talent, swimwear, gown? If they want a girl solely because of her education and experience then I don’t understand why the title isn’t awarded based on appointment or interview alone. The system should be valuing education and interview skills EQUALLY with talent, gown, swim.

[> Subject: So what's the right 'representation' to get the results you wanted? How many more 'non-minorities' were needed? Yet I'm confused, as in the same breathe you are championing representation, you disparage the judges' age and sex.

There were two judges who were involved in the MAO- one who was 3RU in a local 18 years ago and the other went to Miss Ohio a couple of times around 2007. These girls were in preschool when these judges were 'so involved' with the MAO.

This is Volunteer's 3rd pageant. MAO has had a 100 years. Of course Veronica is going to tap into her network from the MAO, who know how to judge a pageant. You want experienced judges on a panel. One was the head of Enrollment for Bluffton College. One was from the area and I believe one was a novice. When Veronica announced the panel, I was totally impressed. This was a very solid panel of serious, accomplished women who've made their careers.
