Subject: Ted's 7.6 install problems

At the end of another thread, Ted wrote: "I had great success thanks to you people in a successful upgrade to HI RES on my CC. I knew that it worked when Norton Utilities considered my resolution 640X480.
I now seem to be encountering a problem installing 7.6 which I installed in the custom format and to create a system that would start any Mac. It took about 6 megs on my external SCSI 1 gig drive. When I tried to boot my 5400 from it, it worked perfectly. However my CC wasn't so fortunate. With only 8 megs RAM and the 512K of VDRAM, my CC worked fine with 7.1.2 but when trying to boot from the external drive with the min 6 meg 7.6 OS, the boot process stopped at the large smiling MACS faces and would not continue further. I would not do an install of 7.6 on my CC until it would boot up my CC from an external drive. And there is nothing wrong with my SCSIcables. Any ideas?"

I'm starting a new thread so that people will see the query better.

I just wondered if you'd tried a 7.5.3 install, which might help identify the problem?

Or try booting the CC from the 7.5NAD, then let the CC install 7.6 for itself using the CD on the 5400 over LocalTalk? I often find that letting a machine install its own OS is less prone to problems.

Stuart.
