Well, you can toss out that Apple Built-In Ethernet extension. It doesn't do anything on Macs that lack built-in Ethernet.

Check to see if you can set the AppleTalk connection to Ethernet. If you can, the card is probably working properly. (Make sure you have an Ethernet cable plugged into the card when you do this; connecting it to the DSL router/modem will be sufficient.)

If the card is indeed working right, throw out the TCP/IP Preferences and set up DHCP again.
