My guess is you installed the system software before you had the card in the Comm Slot. If so, that's why you didn't get a driver for it.

If you had done a custom install of just the networking software using the Mac OS installer you used to install the system *after* you had installed the card, it probably would have worked.

And yes, your guess is correct: the Ethernet LC extension is for LC PDS-slot Ethernet cards, and the Ethernet CS extension is for Comm Slot cards.
