Subject: MicroMac CACHE cards
In reply to: Stuart Bell 's message, "Re: 575 L2 cache cards - the Revised Version!" on 03:54:23 01/05/02 Sat

Stuart...

I am in the US so I'll call them Monday or Tuesday and see what I can find out. But I am not sure what to ask them. I suspect we are interested in the CALC128? So I shall ask them if it will work in a 575 and if it is still available?

I noticed that the L2 cache card (sold by Apple) for the IIci looks the same as the MicroMac picture. If we could figure out how to make the IIci cache card lay down (install horizontally not verticality as it is suppose to)that would be cool. It just plugs right into the PDS slot on the 575 logic card. One easy way would be to buy two IIci cache cards and cannibalize one for the connector. Then just make a "L" by wiring the connectors pin to pin. I have a wire wrap tool I use at work that would do the trick. You can even buy "hand wrap" wire wrap tools for the cost of a screwdriver.

The IIci L2 cache cards are *cheap* and plentiful; On ebay they can be had for $5.00. We need some smart engineer type to look at the IIci logic card and the 575 logic card and see what difference (if any)are in the two PDS slots.

The IIci was a 25Mhz 68030. The NuBus slots ran at 10Mhz but the RAM and CPU ran at 25Mhz. It had clean ROMs.

It might work......
