Subject: Orlando's Utimate Mystic debuts

Got final upgrades to my Mystic all installed so I thought I'd announce it - posted from the Mystic itself! Orlando's Ultimate Mystic features:

* Color Classic picked up free at a Tampa flea market because the seller "couldn't make it boot" (didn't know you have to start from keyboard).
* LC 575 motherboard from a computer purchased for $9.99 because the seller "couldn't make it boot" (didn't know you have to start from keyboard), then sold locally without the motherboard for parts for $85.
* Apple ][e card - hey, it came free with the LC 575 and what else can you put in that LC PDS slot? Over time I also picked up the Y-cable, disk drive & software to go with it!
* 640x480 screen upgrade from Mac Upgrade (formerly MicroMac) - by far the most expensive part of the project since I had to ship the poor thing to California & back. The bad news is it's not the VGA upgrade.
* CPU upgraded with full 040 from a Quadra 950 that cost $10, and which I parted out on ebay for about three times that (even sold the Q950 motherboard with the LC040 CPU in it and advertised as such)
* Global Village 28.8 internal modem purchased on ebay for $9.75 + shipping (my first experience cutting a slot in the CC case and a source of great angst for me).
* 64 mb SIMM purchased at a local computer show by bringing the Mystic with me, and going from one vendors table to the next testing SIMMs until one worked (got lucky at the second vendor!).
* Clock-chipped to 40 mhz using the Official Chris Lawson Clock-Chipping Kit and with the help of my (somewhat bemused) 83-year-old electronics whiz father.
* Heat sink I took from an old PC because I noticed it (the heat sink) had a nice flat bottom
* Official Jack Honeycutt 70ns VRAM (and oh yes I really did have that "no video" problem with the 80ns VRAM after chipping the clock).

Not to mention the disappointing adventure with the Sonnet / Daystar PPC upgrade card - which nevertheless was purchased for $225 including shipping and sold for $225 plus shipping.

Well there it is in all its glory - now if I could just convince my wife
