Fascinating that she would make a comment like that, that she “should” do the same to you. Do you think she had ever actually considered it?

There were a couple of times my Mom would make a really vague defense like that — not exactly a threat, but sort of. I always wondered what would have happened if I had the nerve to reply or engage, like asking, “would you really ever spank me like that?”
