Amen WS.. why doesn't everyone jump down WS' throat for posts like this?? This is what I have been saying for three years -and the only difference now is that the Stags are 7-0...

I hope TOT is offered an extension and leaves you all high and dry for the lack of support, hyper-criticism, & lack of patience in building a program ...

Who do you think you guys are to criticize and call for someone's head? Duke? Terps? Kentucky..

wake up and realize that without TOT you guys are back to square one.. losing and whining about it on this board..

[> [> Where would we be without O'Toole -- Reindeer Fan, 23:07:18 01/20/03 Mon

We have no way of knowing. We might have won 20 games last year with a different coach. Or we might have won 8. We just don't know. While we can give O'toole credit for evaluating and attracting talent, would another person have been able to attract this talent given Fairfields new arena? Should Doris get most of the credit for the things he has done in terms of facility improvements to make it possible for Tim to attract these players?

For this reason it is hard to evaluate O'toole versus other choices since we have no real ability to measure or evaluate the other choices. I do believe it is wrong to blame the coach for all the ills of a program that has struggled for 20 years nor should the coach stand alone if the program has finally turned the corner. While the future looks promising, how many remember the 20 win season Cormier had, the great young recruits and the great returning senior class that featured Bowman and Francis. That was a great team that finished last due to a host of key injuries to Boucard, Bowman and Miller (just to name a few). I thought Cormier had turned the corner but in reality he had not. So while things look promising O'toole has yet to match the 20 win seasons shown by Cormier or Buonguoro two coaches who were ultimately fired....

[> [> [> O'Toole Factor -- WS Stag, 23:37:21 01/20/03 Mon

The Stags had a 36% winning record from the begining of the MAAC until TOT started. There were 3 winning seasons in 22 years, and TOT captained the 24-7 1986 club. We stunk.
I believe that TOT & crew are about 5 games over .500 in the MAAC (42-37?). A 7-0 start in MAAC play is icing on the cake. The Stags are beginning to be good, and maybe very good.
Fairfield has been a coaches graveyard. Tim took a big gamble with his career coming back after Duke and Seton Hall.
It is a wonderful confluence of events that built Harbor Yards and renovated the Fairfield campus and athletic facilities. That coupled with consistency in the coaching ranks and this winning team, can only help attract more talent.
Resign Tim O'Toole now based on his merits. I rest my case.

tr- i think that it is safe to say that everyone on this board was from the beginning of TOT's reign pulling and hoping to rebuild the b-ball program from the ashes that it seemed to be in for many years outside of a few glimmers of hope over the last 15 years....I think we all thought that within 3-5 years we'd have at least the 2nd best program in CT....you have to understand though that when things continued to be sub-par many fans became frustrated and wanted to blame someone....last year was a let-down...we all expeccted more from the team...probably too much....the idea of playing in the new arena would somehow transform the team into superstars...we all wanted to believe it...there were a lot of mental on-court errors which made you think.."who is running this ship?"...TOT was trying everything ...including the 5 men hockey rotation...I mean that flies in the face of the way 99.9% of all d-1 coaches coach....you had to think twice if you follow any kind of b-ball...with that said...the team this year has shown they can win the close one...everyone was so quick to say that losing these games last year was the coaches fault and now that they are winning those games they are giving credit to TOT and his staff....rightfully so....everyone that is close to TOT or anyone that has ever met him...even in passing is pulling for him...i mean, he is an alum...also...remember that most of the people that post on this board are the best fans FU has...the most loyal, the most dedicated, the most willing to sit and watch a game with no heat on in the new arena (Yale game)....anyway...I hope you get my point here...there's no doubt you are a fan and will be for years....so is everyone else on this board....understand though that people do get frustrated and better they take it out here than yelling stupid remarks during a game....your glass is always half full...good for you for remaining positive....i actually believe that we can win the MAAC tourney every year...even when we really have had some bad teams....everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it's unfair to say everyone is a whiner on this board....okay ...I've said enough....Go Stags...beat manhattan!...by the way...I would re-new his contract

You're right, Liz. TOT walks on water and we should all be sent to hell for not knowing he's the messiah. You want the truth, Ruth? You have no clue.
