I've just now had a chance to read through all the posts in this thread and my reaction is a little more mixed than the enthusiasm most of you are showing, for several reasons.
1.) Until I hear from several reliable sources that production has *actually* begun on this movie, I'm going to continue to have my doubts that it will happen. CC and DD have been saying they're "going to start" production on this movie for at least two years now. CC has a record of lying to his fans (i.e. season seven was going to be the final season, then season eight was going to be the final season, etc.) and DD has a record of signing on to do projects that, somehow, never seem to materialize (i.e. "My Dark Places"). So I'm not holding my breath.
2.) I don't need a "big name star" in the cast to draw me to an XF movie. DD and GA are plenty "big" enough for me. I don't want Ben Affleck or Reese Witherspoon or Denzel Washington or somebody like that up there taking screen time away from Mulder and Scully. Oddly enough, given my less-than-enthusiastic response to Agent Doggett, if we absolutely *must* have an actor other than DD and GA featured prominently in the movie, I'd just as soon it be RP; his character at least has a history with M&S.
3.) Is Scully even going to be in the damned movie?? Given some of the posts here, it sounds like it will take a lot to lure her back and, if she participates at all, it will probably be on a limited basis. So most likely the plot will basically be, "Scully is in the first five minutes of the movie, where she gets kidnapped/abducted/drugged into a near-death coma/whatever and Mulder and his new buddy (whatever "big name actor" they get to co-star in the movie) try to rescue her for the next two hours and then she shows up for the last five minutes. I would have the same level of enthusiasm for a "Scullylite" XF movie that I had for the "Mulderlite" season eight eps. . .that is to say, not a heck of a lot.
4.) I'm still perturbed about some of the developments in season eight and *especially* in season nine. So, even if the movie features both DD and GA prominently, with no other major stars to infringe on the Mulder/Scully interaction, it's hardly likely that I'll be running out to see it the day it opens, like I did with "Fight the Future".
Basically, I guess, my feelings are: do it right or don't do it at all. If they can make a movie which captures the essence of some of the classic MOTW XF eps -- something similar to "Pusher" or "Detour" or "Milagro" -- then they should do it. If they can't combine those elements in the way they did back in the 1990s -- and sometimes once the magic is past it simply can't be recaptured -- they should leave us with our memories and let DD and GA get on with their lives.
P.S. I realize I'm probably going to be in the minority on this issue, but: a Mulder/Scully love scene steamy enough to earn the movie an R-rating would be nice. The loyal shippers who endured a decade of UST and were rewarded with a grand total of three "real" Mulder/Scully kisses -- all while they were fully clothed and standing up -- deserve something a little sexier on the big screen.
