Subject: Would you still be watching?

Suppose neither David Duchonvy nor Gillian Anderson had ever had the slightest wish to do anything else with their lives, career-wise, other than star in "The X-Files" and the show was now about to start its 11th season with the two of them as Mulder and Scully. Would you still be watching? Do you think the show would still be as innovative and interesting as it was during the 1990s?
My own answer is "it depends". If season seven had played out exactly as it did -- including consummation of the MSR in "all things" and a revelation of Scully's pregnancy in "Requiem" -- so that the MSR moved onto a new level for seasons eight and beyond, then I think the show would have remained fresh. If the knowledge that DD and GA were committed to the show led CC to keep the "tease" going on, I think I would have lost interest by this point. Six-and-a-half years of UST was already pushing things to the breaking point. . .another three years of "I love you but I'm never, ever going to express that love sexually" would have just been ludicrous.
