Subject: Some quotes from a DD interview and some thoughts from me

This ran as a brief on the Associated Press wire. I'm posting it here, with comments by me afterwards.

NEW YORK (AP) — David Duchovny isn’t returning to ‘‘The X-Files,’’ but he’s still fighting aliens — in the new sci-fi comedy ‘‘Evolution.’’
Duchovny plays a biology teacher who battles alien spores that develop at lightning pace, quickly evolving into life forms that threaten humanity. Julianne Moore and Orlando Jones co-star as members of his bumbling band of alien fighters.
Although he’s not returning to the Fox series for the show’s ninth season, Duchovny tells People magazine in its June 25 issue that he would happily return for a second ‘‘X-Files’’ movie.
The 1998 film had his Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, played by Gillian Anderson, searching for evidence of aliens on Earth.
But Duchovny doesn’t believe there should be another movie until the TV series is off the air.
‘‘It’s my feeling that you should actually give the audience a chance to miss the show — and give me a chance to miss the show,’’ the 40-year-old actor said.

I pretty much agree with what DD's saying here. It's not so much that I don't believe there *should* be another XF movie until the TV series goes off the air, but I don't believe there *will* be another movie 'til the series goes off the air.
It seems to me that the best thing those of us who are fans of classic XF (i.e. eps that have both Mulder and Scully in them) can do to bring about a second movie as soon as possible is to ignore season nine. Don't watch it. Don't visit the Official XF Site on the web, because they have counters on those things and the more hits they get the more they will assume people are still interested in the show, even with Mulder gone.
IMHO, the main problem to be surmounted if/when they do a second movie will not be DD's involvement, since *every* interview I've ever seen with him has portrayed him as enthusiastic of reprising the role of Muler for the big screen. I kind of wonder about GA, though. It was pretty apparent by midway through season seven, both DD *and* GA were getting tired of their invovlement with XF as a TV series.
DD got to leave, and so still has some pretty good feelings about eventually playing Mulder again. Some of the interviews I've seen with GA recently indicate that she's throughly sick and tired of playing Scully and they rarely include disclaimers like "on the TV series, I mean. I look forward to playing the role in movies again." So, who knows??
