Hi, I'm Detoured's sister. We saw the movie today in a theatre with over-zealous air-conditioning. At first I thought it only SEEMED cold because there was so much snow in the film. And the music was by Mark Snow, of course.

Anyway, I started out liking it (the opening scene with the long line of FBI agents marching across a field of snow was certainly captivating), then hating it because of all the dog stuff, then liking parts of it, then feeling disappointed due to the complete lack of little green men, and now I'm thinking it was actually a pretty good movie. (I wonder what I'll think tomorrow??)

As far as sinister thrillers go, this movie was quite good. Geez, the evil guys were REALLY evil! And was anyone sure of what was going on before seeing "the hand"? Maybe I'm just slow.

I liked Billy Connolly a lot. And Scully was maddening, as usual. C'mon Scully... even if Father Joe was in on it, I'd like to see you locate the EXACT spot where you buried something in a field after the whole thing was covered with ice. And you still doubted that he had the psychic gift? Ah well. At least she's consistent. And, as always, eventually she came around.

As someone else posted, yeah, the 'shippers must be in hog-heaven! It was a bit of a shock. But, really, wasn't their couple-dom inevitable? It's not like anyone else could put up with either of them.

(Someone please remind me... what happened to William?)

An interesting parallel... those Russian guys doing ANYTHING to keep their boss alive, and Scully taking desperate measures to keep her young patient alive.

Another point I wanted to make... after sitting through preview after preview of nothing but computer generated action with lots of loud sound efx, it was a nice break to watch a film that involved the real, physical world with real scenery and the welcome absence of CGI motion.

My three biggest complaints: I wanted a story about aliens. Call me sentimental.

Also, I thought the Russians were kind of dumb (haven't they heard of P.O. boxes?)

And, I really REALLY could have done without the dog scenes. That was awful.

The ending (I mean the ending after everyone else left the theatre) was very cute. Was I the only one who waved back?
