I don't think we're *SUPPOSED* to like Dogsbody; at least not at first, maybe not ever. Just as we're weren't supposed to "like" CSM or Fowl Thing! (Actually, despite his drool-factor, I don't think we're supposed to like Krycek, either!)
This feeling, however, applies the character, NOT the actor who portrays him. I've got nothing against Robert Patrick; on a personal level, I feel sorry for the guy.
I still think, and most likely always will think, that whoever made the decision to continue XF past a seventh season (I had been blaming CC for this; several of you seemed to think it was more the Fox execs' idea and CC was kind of caught between a rock and a hard place - wanting to end the show, but feeling that if it was going to go on regardless, it was better for him to continue at the helm) played a dirty trick on both DD and the fans. We had all been promised "Seven Seasons, then it ends as a TV series and the concept continues in movies".
I really think they are screwing up the MSR by doing a Mulderlite season this year followed, possibly, by a completely "Mulderless" season next year. While I know there are some who disagree, I feel the relationship between Mulder and Scully is the "heart" of the X-Files and is the reason most people tune in week after week. If all we wanted was to see "scary stories" we could rent "Halloween the 13th on Elm Street, Parts 1-25"!
