Subject: I don't know who CC thinks he's trying to kid
In reply to: Islandgirl 's message, "Everybody's opinions on an endless number of "XF" seasons" on 07:21:38 08/08/00 Tue

But I do have an idea on GA's resigning. Well not my idea, but Autumn Tysko has an opinion and she seems to have a good handle on things. I read that she said GA may simnly have resigned so that she could get more money for Season 8. She may think there won't be a 9th at all. I think I brought this up on an other board but it's looking more and moer like this might have just been a business move for GA and have nothing to do with her thinking the show would continue past the 8th year.

And my own thoughts are also that if a Season 9 would happen, we would only see Scully on a very limited basis.

One thing I'd like to point put is that it now seems like we are learning that at least DD is being much more honest with the fans. Remember when we kept hearing that he would be in about half the season? And then we heard from DD himself that it would be much less than the fans were expecting? I think at that time he said the number would be 8. Most recently he has said he would be in 6 full eps and might appear in smaller roles in up to eleven more. And yet the official Fox word for awhile was that he would be in 11 which is very decieving. At least DD gives it to us straight! Fox obviously is really afraid that people won't watch without DD so they quickly tell us that the new guy is not a replacement and won't be Scully's new partner and we will still have DD for half the year. Now we know the second part of that isn't true. So who knows really what their plans are about Rpbert Patrick? It could very well be that they think they can phase out Mulder and ease this new guy in. Ha!

Part of me hopes that the ratings for the non Mulder eps will be terrible and the Mulder eps will get the best ratings. I hope that dosn't give the impression that the fans don't want to watch Scully only. Only that they want the Mulder AND Scully dynamic.

I have no idea what is going on in CC's mind. If he really thinks the fans will embrace a Next Generation type show he's goijg tpo b e in for a shock. Of course it may be the network that's doing this because they own the show so it may be out of CC's hands.

What I don't understand is why they can't expand Skinner's role. Why not make HIM lead character? Skinner hasd a huge following among philes and I think people would be much more receptive to a 'Skinner phasing in and Mulder in a deminsihed capacity' situation than a total stranger. I've thought for years that they could do a spinoff series revolving around Skinner and other FBI agents unbder his supervision. Unless CC wants to do that too! Could a Skinner spinoff be far behind?!

I agree with you that it's not DD whose ruining the X-Files. I just read yet another post over at Fox where someone said that again! But he's right and you're right. I think he would like the series to end with some class. Although I think he feels it's already too late for that. In his recent Aussie interview he states that the show really needs to move on. I don't know how the movies will be effected. Maybe CC is thinking of a Next Generation type thing with that too. Star Trek still had movies with the old cast even though there was a new cast in the TV series.

I guess it will be up to the fans to decide what they want. I hope the Gunmen series is good and if so I hope it does well. In fact it would be funny if it did better in the ratings than a Mulderless and Scullyless sham X-Fils series! Especially a Gunmen ep with Mulder appearing. (I read DD is interested in doing that) That would be justice!
