Subject: Everybody's opinions on an endless number of "XF" seasons

I'm just wondering what everybody thinks about this scheme of endlessly adding "just one more" season to "The X-Files"? When the series originally began, the stated premise was that it would run five years as a TV series, then be "wrapped up" with a theatrical movie. About midway through Season Five, they changed that to "five TV seasons, then a movie, then two more TV seasons". They said "XF" would definitely end as a TV series after the seventh season, but the "XF" concept would live on as a movie series after that, with one movie coming out every three years or so.
Well. . .now we're getting a eighth season that was depicted, last spring, as being the "last" season. But I'm already hearing rumors of a possible ninth season. Does everybody think it's wonderful that we may be getting "XF" as a TV series for the next 10 or 12 years? Or does anybody feel like we're being played for fools, endlessly be told that "this is the last season"?
I would be in favor of virtually endless TV seasons *IF* it was what CC, DD and GA all wanted. If all three of them were completely enthralled with the idea of working on "The X-Files" TV series for the rest of their lives, even if meant limiting their other professional opportunities and family time, I would be happy with that idea. However, that is very obviously not the case.
DD is often portrayed as prima donna who is "ruining" the X-Files, but I kind of feel it's almost the opposite. He seems to be the main one who wants to honor the committments made to the fans and let the series end with class and dignity. CC and the head honchos at Fox seem more interested in milking "XF" out of every last possible dollar, even if they have to ruin the whole premise of "XF" to do it.
Also, while I really don't understand much about the economics of movies and TV, aren't they kind of shooting themselves in the foot here? DD has expressed enthusiasm about continuing the role of Mulder in "XF" movies. The current crop of fans would pay big bucks to see future "XF" movies with the Mulder-Scully relationship intact. If they do a Mulderlite season (which they are definitely doing for Season 8) followed by two or three Mulderless seasons (the most likely scenario if they for a ninth and tenth season) I think it would be almost impossible to recapture the old "Mulder/Scully magic" on the big screen.
Basically, I think they're letting "The X-Files" become just another dumb TV series.
