Subject: The thrill is fading

This is something that has been alluded to in responses to other posts on the Season 8 and Shipper boards, but I thought it deserved it's own separate post here at General Discussion.
Am I the only one who finds herself not anywhere near as excited about Season 8 being only a month or so away from beginning as I was about previous season premieres of "The X-Files"?
Last year at this time I think we had, literally, started a countdown until the first episode of Season 7. Now, while I will most likely watch every ep of "XF" this season, I just can't get all that enthused about it. In some ways, this is not a totally bad thing, as my family used to complain about my "XF" obsession and I am now able to have entire conversations in which the words "Mulder and Scully" never occur.
I think my lack of excitement is due to two things:
1. The fact that Mulder will be in only about half the episodes. I don't think this is merely a "shipper thing", as my noromo brother is also of the opinion that the show won't be anywhere near as good without DD in virtually every episode. For seven seasons, it was a two-character drama, focusing on Mulder's quest for "the truth". Now it's going to be. . .something different.
2. Last year, we were under the impression that we were entering the "home stretch" of "The X-Files". CC (and everybody else) was saying that Season 7 would be the final season of "XF" as a TV show. There's always a certain excitement (as well as a certain melancholy) attached to the "final" anything. Now, we're entering a twilight zone where some version of "The X-Files" may go on virtually indefinitely. This is Season 8, with Mulder in only half the episodes, but Scully in all of them. Next will probably come Season 9, with Scully in most episodes and Mulder in none of them. Then maybe Season 10 with neither Mulder *NOR* Scully in any of the episodes, just Doggett and Skinner running around chasing aliens and mutants. Even if, midway through, CC announces that this is the "last" season of "XF", nobody is going to believe him this time around.
Honestly, is *ANYBODY* looking forward to the first Sunday of November 2000 with anything like the eagerness they were looking forward to the first Sunday of November 1999?
