Subject: I think DD's is more like 400,000

I read that it was around that. Maybe the article got mixed up with the Friends cast who will be getting 750,000.

I agree it's a lot of money but if the networks are willing to pay it then they will. I rmember during the last year of Seinfeld when the supporing players were paid 600,000 and that was considered a lot and now it's gone up higher. The two stars from Mad About You were paid a million per ep the last season which was ridiculous. That show was already going downhill in the ratings. I think the stars themselves know everything is overblown. Jason Alexandar (George from Seinfeld) caused some controversy when he did a TV interview talking about the huge amounts of money the stars get. He said right out that what he got for the last year of Seinfeld was ridiculous. But since the networks are willing to pay it should the stars say no? As long as they are willing to return to the series there's no reason not to. Jerry Seinfeld was offered 5 milion per ep for the last year of Seinfeld and turned it down. He could have gotten it but he didn't want to come back.

The entertainment industry has become a one upsmanship in regard to pay. Just look at the movie stars who now get 20 million dollars for one movie! And then when one star gets it, another star says, "well if he can get that then so can I" and up the prices go.

I certainly don't think they should be getting so much but one thing that I think differentiates the US from Australia or most other countries is that, for some reason we emport a lot of our TV shows whereas you don't. I'm always wishing I could see more programs from overseas. I love British comedies especially. But we don't get them here. In fact when I was in Oz I was disappointed to turn on the TV there and see eps of The Golden Girls! I don't want to watch the Golden Girls in Australia! Well at least we get Steve and his Crocs here.
And reruns of Skippy the Kangaroo. ;-)
But the overseas market is huge and I bet the stars want to get a piece of that action as well. The X-Files is shown in many foreigh countries like Greece and South Africa but we sure don't get many Greek or South African TV shows here.

Toni Collette is wonderful! She was so good in The Sixth Sense. I had no idea that part was played by an Aussie until I read about her after I'd seen the movie. I was so happy she got nominated for an Oscar.
