I too didn't get the connection between the starlight children and the santa children. At first I thought, as Mulder said, that the walkins took children to prevent them from suffering a terrible thing such as what happened to the santa children and that the walkins didn't take the santa children.

What I think now is that the walkins take children who know they are going to have something awful happen to them. Or children whom the walkins know are about to suffer a terrible thing in their lives. Samantha knew she was in danger and it was only a matter of time before she suffered even more in this life so the walkins took her. The walkins didn't take the santa children because noone could foresee what would happen to them. Or the children themselves weren't suffering or going to knowingly suffer. Or maybe the walkins can't always know about and thus get to children in time. Then once the santa children were found, the walkins were then able to take them and give them a better [after]life in the starlight.

At first I didn't think the starlight children were dead but they obviously are. I don't know how they died but in Samantha's case I would guess suicide. Perhaps that's what the starlight children are. As for Amber Lyn........this does not match with my theory. Perhaps the walkins took her before Santa could. He obvioulsy planned to and the walkins got her first. This does not explain how she ended up dead. Maybe as an indirect result of being first abducted by santa and perhaps escaping and meeting her death in some other less suffering way. The same for the psychic's son.

I don't know what the abduction notes were about but perhaps the walkins caused that as a message or warning that their kids were about to be taken by santa but then rescued by the walkins. Perhaps it was a way to turn what the walkins do into something that can be believably grasped by the parents /police etc. And a way to make someone discover santa and stop him. The appearance of the kids' ghosts to their parents was a message that the walkins had them and that they were ok and didn't suffer at the hands of santa or any other murderer and were now in a better place. Especially as their bodies would never be found.

wow now *my* brain is over heating.

Something else I was thinking is that if Samantha was raised in the house with Jeffry and CGB, how come Cassandra hasn't remembered her and told Mulder? Unless she was abducted herself at that time. Maybe upon her return she took Jeffry and went elsewhere leaving Sam with CGB. She may never have seen Sam. But wouldn't Jeffrey remember her? Let's just say that when Sam was 8 Jeff was 4. Now they could have put their hands in the cement then and then Jeff may have soon been taken away by his mother and would not remember Sam. I wonder if the diary mentions Jeff? This is the only way I can think of to explain why Cassandra and Jeffrey don't remember Sam. Remember also that Jeffrey didn't know his father [to look at at least] when he had grown up. You would think that he'd have some recollection of a girl that used to live with him, even if he didn't remember anything about her. Well he is dead now so we'll never know. Maybe that is why CGB killed him.

Mrs M and the photos??? That is still a mystery to me. She also burnt the paper calling off the search. Why? Because she knew where Samantha was and didn't want Fox to find out that she had let him suffer all this time? Perhaps the Amber Lyn case had nothing to do with Samantha's case. Perhaps Mrs M saw it on the news and knew Fox would be there still searching for answers for Sam.Perhaps that case just brought her to the realisation that she had to end his suffering before she offed herself. Maybe she changed her mind about telling him when he didn't call her back and so burnt the photos and papers to stop him from knowing the truth. Or to tell him that it was all a lie. I don't think she wrote an abduction note. But she probably saw Samantha's ghost 6 years after the abduction when Samantha died and the walkins got her. So she would have known she was dead if CGB hadn't already told her. Perhaps CGB never told her about Sam and that is why they had that fight before the stoke. Or maybe Mrs M wanted to tell Mulder the truth and CGB said no. Who knows? It's all brain busting stuff.

I must go and lie down now after that.

Sorry for the length

Stardoe
