In reply to: detoured 's message, "Hey Stardoe, can I join in? (Sein und Zeit and Closure spoilers)" on 00:40:33 06/02/00 Fri

you'll have to blame the exams i'm afraid - still, only 3 weeks left to freedom!

anyway, onto more important matters - and you'll have to forgive me even more because its been a whole week since i saw closure and haven't had time to watch it again. so also excuse me if i mix SUZ and closure. i tend to do that sometimes!

you know stardoe, if you do venture onto S7 discussion, i think closure is about archive 5, and it IS possible to without seeing any spoilers, there's a great thread between det and hairytoes. they both saw the ep in totally different ways - its quite funny to see how 2 people can watch an ep and have a completely different reaction to it. BTW det, i'm with you, i tend to see an ep as the bigger picture, which is why i liked closure. i can see hairytoes point, i've was battling to try and work out what was going on, and i think part of it i have, but there's a hell of alot of confusing links in the ep, and not all of which, IMO, make any sense at all. in particular, (and there was another interesting thread on this in the archive) the link between the 2 eps was extremely dodhy and i didn't get the link between the abductions with the santa notes, and in fact, the whole santa thing in general, with the children taken by the walk-ins and living in the starlight. although i did read some threads that had some interesting and valid points, i didn't always agree with them. (correct me if anything of this is wrong - memory like a seive, and brain not much better!) we're told that the walk-ins protect children from harm - or to that effect, but the children at the santa place were murdered by 'santa' - why were they not protected? but then we saw the children rise from their graves, or sprirts of them, and hold hands - i don't understand what that was supposed to symbolise, and what the link between those children and the starlight children. and if the children murdered weren't starlight children, then who directed the parents to write those notes? because both amber-lynns parents could, as well as the woman in jail, but so could mulder. so whats the connection between them?

honestly, i can feel my brain overheating!

ok, i'm done with that bit! :) personally, i wasn't so keen on the diary reading scene. i know you won't agree det, but here goes! it just felt a little bit like a CC moment. :) does that make sense?! i thought it was a little predictable, and one of those scenes where it feels like CC is putting it in because he feels he has too. its also like the scene where the nurse tells scully about 'the man with a cigarette'. i feel like we've been there before and more than once. everyone knew the man was going to be CSM, i just don't think it needed to be spelt out for us. it was a touching MSR moment though, but even better, and i may have got the wrong idea here, was the scene where mulder and scully reach the nurses house, and scully asks mulder if he's like her to go and talk to her without him and he agrees. i thought was really sweet! (and BTW didn't scully look great in that leather jacket?!) but anyway, it still didn't beat the MSR scene in SUZ - the hug scene and for me the bit before it - where mulder's putting this theory to scully, and she has to break the news that Mrs mulder *had* killed herself. mulder's face and reaction was one of the most touching moments in XF history....it goes down with crying by the bed in redux 2 and in one breath where mulder sinks to the floor and starts to cry. or am i just a sucker for DD crying??! anyway, i thought it was another example of just how unbelieveably talented and amazing and great DD is! although i'm sure i don't need to tell det that!.

ok so that leads me to the thing i think i hated most about SUZ. well not hated, but liked the least! it was the way mulder had this theory at the beginning that amber - lynn was *not* dead, and he defiantly told anyone in his path. then he changes his mind, she *is* dead and he has a go at everyone again. i mean, i know thats what mulder's like but make up your mind love!

anyway, back to closure. i guess the only thing i had left to say was a repetition of everyone else - how great the starlgiht scene was and how moving the music was. i would have to agree det, it was strange to finish the story by having sam dead and all the time too, but it feels right to me. i also think it was the right time for it to happen. i thought an important part of the story was touched on, that mulder needs closure, and he needs to move on.

BTW, i liked the CSM/scully scene. although i didn't think they made the most of it. it didn't last very long. but i would love to see more of CSM and scully together. and that girl *really* needs some better protection on her flat. people just seem to walk in and out!

and as for teena mulder - never been a fan either! and was there any reason she burnt the photos? to be honest, i'm quite glad she's dead! shhh! :) not sure whether i should say that! saying that though, it does leave mulder with no family which is quite sad really. even though scully sort of is his only family, he did seem to have a good childhood till samantha was abducted.

well thats it! sorry this is so long. i kinda had alot of opinions today! and i thought the trailer looked good for x cops. i get to see it tommorow. hope you'll sit through another load of my ramblings!

cvl :)
