Subject: Not sure about hiding but they must know
In reply to: EL 's message, "Re: The Stones are hiding what really happened. Maybe." on 09:54:01 09/15/16 Thu

What's up EL? Nice to see you're still alive and well!

"We all know that Jagger enlisted Mick Taylor to replace Brian, but when Jagger informed Brian that they were heading out on tour with Mick T., it is my humble opinion that Brian may have informed HIM that they were NOT going anywhere. Brian owned the name "Rolling Stones" and the band NEEDED Brian's legal ok to tour."

What about the Hyde Park gig that Brian was very well aware of? It's never been mentioned anywhere that Brian tried to offer any resistance to this from happening. Wouldn't you think that if Brian made the stand about the tour, band continuing, future recordings, name, etc, that this would have been the first place Brian would have drawn a line in the sand?

"Or, they needed to pay him, whether he was going on the tour or not, just as they had to continue to pay him record royalties from their discs sold. That's how the music business works.",

If the story about Brian was to be receiving some sort of financial settlement was true, then I'd assume this was all worked out PRIOR to the Hyde Park gig.
The whole problem I have with your theory here EL is, if Brian did agree to a lump sum payment along with yearly annuities, then why stop the band from going out on tour and making records to earn income so that they could continue to keep paying him?

"Gerry once said on this forum that she RAN INTO Brian in Greenwich Village NY in 1969,who told her he was here for "business AND pleasure"...and it's highly possible he stopped by Allen Klein's office to read him the riot act on WHO owned the Stones' name and rights. Maybe Brian demanded a lot of money to allow the tour to happen. That, we'll never know."

Gerry ran into Brian twice EL (you must remember now!). The first time was in 1968 in Greenwich Village (Brian was with Bob Dylan when she ran into him). The second time was next year sometime in the late spring of 1969 when he came into her workplace in Manhattan. If my memory serves me correctly, I think it was right before they announced his departure from the band. This would be the meeting of hers you are referring to and I agree with you, I'd bet anything that he was in NYC to meet with Allen Klein in regards to his finances, most likely dealing with his leaving the band.

"But if so - Bad move."

If Klein had any involvement in Brian's death, then yeah, in hindsight it was.

"In less than a month, Olympic-grade swimmer [just ask Keith Richards] Brian Jones was dead, drowned in six feet of water. Me, personally, I don't believe he did it without some help. I think when Klein saw the possibility of millions of dollars being washed down the toilet because of a potentially cancelled tour [and the Stones desperately DID need the money - their finances were in shambles in 1969] he opted to find a way to "take care of the problem".

Again, I don't think there was a worry about a cancelled tour.
We all know how Klein didn't like to pay the artists their money once it was in his hands. If I had to pin a motive on Klein, it would be along the line that he just didn't want to pay out a huge lump sum to Brian, which supposedly was due him on July 3rd of that year. Klein was in the UK at that time and the timing of Brian's death certainly worked out to Klein's advantage.

"How much Mick, Keith or the rest of the Stones were involved in this, only they know."

Without getting into who, why and how Brian died, deep down I believe that they know exactly how he died and who killed him. Keith's comments in his autobiography sure are telling. Involved? I really don't think so. Like you said, only they know. Keith seems to anyway.

The original poster in this thread said "the Stones are hiding what really happened" and to some degree I agree insofar as the people responsible may have been employed by them at the time and they want to distance themselves from that association.

"I've always felt that Brian's death was directly related to his bad business decisions in 1969, and was quite surprised when Gerry said that Brian WAS here in New York that year.

Both of Brian's trips to NYC refute the claim that Brian was unable to travel to the USA if nothing else.
