Very impressive resume both as a player and coach, was a top player at Davidson , ten years plus as a head coach, interesting candidate.

Oh boy. Now it's B.G.s turn to say "be careful". There's miles and miles between D-I and D-III. This Coach K sounds perfect for Swarthmore (a school that admits only the smartest young minds), some say is even above the Ivy League. The Coach K here sounds GREAT for Swarthmore, but D-I (even the Ivy League) may not be. He seems quite a rare bird.

I was happy when the Women's program hired a proven winner at D3 Geneseo. It did not work out well.

So, never hire a DIII coach because a women's coach struggled?
Guess we never hire a D1 assistant, because the last three we hired struggled.
Guess we don't hire a former D1 head coach, since the last one we had struggled too.
Every coach and every situation is different.

That's so, every coach and every situation is different. So, be careful who you hire. Especially in D-III up to D-I hires. Just be careful. Look at John Bielien: High School, then step by step by step up to Michigan. And he went step to step to step to step in D-I with each of his four D-I steps, a little higher each time. All the way to the HOF.

Scott Hemer wasn’t a success but he made it work at Genesee. Nice guy but struggled when it came to D1.
