First I would like to thank you guys/alumni for allowing me to share my thoughts on team as a fan from afar off. With all due respect to current Coach Christian which seems like a nice guy; Ive been really having a hard time trying to understand the thought process behind Canisius passing on a coach like Jordan Fee. What he did at Gannon University(unheard of in NCAAB history), and the Coaching Tree he comes from(The most winningest percentage head coach in NCAAB History- The Legend himself Coach Jim Crutchfield), makes me wonder so many things. For sake of time, the Crutchfield Tree has proven to be roster turnover proof(which is a must in this new era of Portal/NIL). Coach Fee basically made a whole new roster in one year and made history! This is what's needed now when you don't have time to build a roster before suffering attrition.Would love to hear you guys thoughts on this. God Bless!

Fee was an interesting story and was discussed here considerably. It's my understanding that at the end of the day, they wanted someone more experienced - especially D1 experience. That's why it came down to Christian, Curran, Donlon, and Copeland and ultimately Christian and Curran. I know too that there was some question as to whether or not the frenetic pace he employed at Gannon would be successful at the D1 level.

He was also interested in getting more experience at a rising D1 program. FAU came calling when he was being interviewed.

Jordan joined the staff in the spring of 2024 after the hiring of head coach John Jakus. We didn’t offer the Canisius job until after the Final 4.

His record as Head Coach was impressive. He immediately led the Golden Knights to a school record of 32-3, earning a spot in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in the 2023-24 season.

And good for him. Never said they didn't like him, sometimes the timing just isn't right. He'll get the experience he was lacking and will likely get a D1 head coaching opportunity at some point in the future.

Not only would it have worked at a school like Canisius on this level, but it is working on the highest level of basketball as we speak.

Ok we get the Jim Crutchfield thing. And he's "choosing" not to get in to the D1 coaching mix?

Teams are scoring 140 points at the "highest Level" as we speak? Which teams are those?

I saw Gannon play twice last year and the pace is much faster than anyone at the D1 level. That may work against Penn St. Dubois but you aren't doing that against St. Peter's or Merrimack.

The nytimes article i posted confirms what im mean by the "highest level". Current and past NBA(highest level)championship head coaches have learned and adopted styles from coach crutchfield. And they have also come and sat at his feet to learn. If it can work with the best basketball players in the world, I think it can work with mid-low major college basketball players.

That must be why everyone in D1 runs his system...

I understand that thought process very well, but we all know the definition of insanity is doing the same things expecting a different result. We have to be Bold and cant be scared to step out on faith and think outside the box when making coaching hires, especially nowadays(No time to build an roster). Continuing to hire retread coaches on the decline of their careers(because of living in old past time/NOT recent success) will not cut it in today's game.I believe this is what leads to many stagnant(underperforming) mid-low major programs who refuse to change "Status Quo" mentalities. Appreciate your feedback!

I can certainly respect that point of view as do many others on this board and elsewhere. Appreciate the discourse and hope you visit the board and comment more frequently!
