Hungry Lions

Some retailers want differentiation without adding significant value. Optimal values are advantages retailers add by helping customers maximize product/service benefits.

Effective differentiation is reducing problems &/or increasing opportunities better than competitors.

Let’s try this analogy:

You might know if you run from lions, they’ll probably run faster & catch you.

If you’re surrounded by lions during your trip to Africa, you have one chance to escape, so choose it well.

You use your cell phone to call your travel agent who used to be a circus lion tamer & s/he tells you, “Yell, ‘Boo!’ It’s works for me every time. Audiences love it!” You’re ready to yell, but you realize you didn’t train those lions. You need quick action if it’s the best action, so you need an advisor who understands your conditions.

You call the retailer who sold you some supplies. S/he asks questions as lions get closer, including “Do you have that bug repellent can?” You yell, “These are lions!”

S/he says, “So, if I understand the lions are circling & one is closing in more than the others. Spray her eyes as she jumps & move out of her path. She’ll probably land on the lion behind you. It’ll leave a gap in their circle & cause confusion. Your only chance at running away is through that gap.”

If you ask, “Are you sure? Have you done this?” S/he might ask, “Do you want me to ask more questions now? Or do you want to escape NOW?”

Would you have more confidence in an experienced advisor who isn’t interested in your conditions or somebody who bases advice on your needs?

Thank you for using my blog. Please let me know if I should clarify anything.
