Subject: Detroit Feis - bad stages so many falls!

I’m really surprised at how many falls there were. I counted 9 today. It ran so long for not even having second chance. Very disappointed it was unorganized.

[> It was truly a disgrace! Safety needs to be the priority -- Kids falling in both hard and soft shoes multiple times, 23:41:08 06/01/24 Sat (NoHost/45.130.83.116)

Prelim ran so late, meanwhile the majority of those kids had to dance on that terrible stage while a perfectly good stage set unused right next to it! Between the judges and the organizers, where were the adults making decisions in regards to safety for these dancers.

[> [> PSA All Feis Organizers: Don’t run champs on bare plywood stages -- Always cover with plastic. Wood gets slick after hard shoe use and uneven/untaped edges catch toes, 10:33:48 06/02/24 Sun (a172-226-66-19.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com/172.226.66.19)

so many falls on that stage - a couple were quite hard. Multiple other dancers who complained of slipping in the same spot and were lucky they didn’t take a spill too.

That was the only stage without plastic. Someone cut corners.

[> [> [> I agree. My dancer broke her leg from a fall on a plywood stage -- Scared of falling again, 12:00:31 06/02/24 Sun (syn-174-104-201-167.res.spectrum.com/174.104.201.167)

The fall was not at Detroit but we were at Detroit this weekend. Stages were so slippery and my dancer doesn’t dance her best on these stages since she doesn’t want to fall again. I see her kick height is lower and she doesn’t dance the fullest. There was some confusion with judges and placement there too. Hope results are accurate

[> The venue was good and it ran pretty smoothly both days -- PC/OC ran long on Sat should have had more judges to run other stages concurrently, 10:39:00 06/02/24 Sun (a172-226-66-19.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com/172.226.66.19)

I complained to people running the feis last year after I witnessed dancer after dancer slip on the plywood. I asked if someone could come mop the stages and they looked at me like I had 3 heads. They've been talked to about this and they obviously don't care. At LEAST offer the dancers a wet cloth to wipe their shoes before getting on stage, at the very least. Shameful.

[> We were lucky we were on a Marley stage but the plywood stage did have a ton of falls that we saw. -- Stages, 16:04:13 06/04/24 Tue (c-107-4-73-147.hsd1.mi.comcast.net/107.4.73.147)

They tried mopping it with water but I'm not sure water helps. We generally like this feis. It didn't feel unorganized to me, ran smoothly but did see a lot of falls on the one uncovered stage. It was originally only grades, i believe they moved some PC and adult champs over.

[> Great Experience at Detroit Feis -- Well run w/ a great venue, 14:32:09 06/05/24 Wed (NoHost/172.59.169.208)

Attended Detroit Feis for the first time this year & did grade exams as well -- we had a great experience overall, very well run - Stage 5 didn't seem slippery and it moved along pretty well. Musicians were great. The wait for results was pretty short. Feis organizers were very responsive when I had questions before and after the feis. Loved the venue - tons of seating and parking was free, easy, close and plentiful and we also appreciated that we weren't charged extra for it. We will definitely do this one again next year.

[> Slippery and too long -- No name, 17:02:43 06/05/24 Wed (pool-173-69-148-227.bltmmd.fios.verizon.net/173.69.148.227)

My daughter fell last year on these stages, and I saw many falls this year. The timing varied from great to horrific. Friday went very smoothly, as did Saturday open, but the Saturday prelim stage was 3 or 4 hours behind! It was ridiculous. Also, could have used food trucks.
