Subject: This frustrates a lot of dancers (and their parents)
In reply to: GIDGirl 's message, "Not advancing" on 12:32:30 10/05/20 Mon

When my daughter was in PC, there was a situation where a dancer in one of her friend's competitions admitted she qualified for OC the previous year, but wanted to stay in PC because it was "easier" and she liked collecting sashes. There was still time before the competition and one of the dancers reported it to her mother who brought it up with a stage monitor. The stage monitor ended up taking it up with the girl's teacher who was there, getting ready to watch the competition. Long story short, she was immediately moved up to OC (I believe she placed well too).

You can always take it up with a stage monitor. However, not all stage monitors are assertive, so they may not do anything about it. It happens in the scenario above, the stage monitor was very involved with the committee and knew who the girl's teacher was. It worked out.

Your other option is to locate the feis chairperson and report the situation. With so few feis opportunities due to Covid, it is extremely unfair for a dancer who has qualified to move up not doing so when it has been mandated by the Region (January 1st for grades)

A Feis or a stage monitor can' do that. It is up to the school to make these decisions. Unfortunately some just trophy hunt. You cannot pull a dancer off stage as some schools have other qualifications to move up that are above what the region requires.

Our dancers have always been at the mercy of these rules.

[> [> [> An executive board member for the feis absolutely can enforce the rules if there is evidence. Stage monitors are often simply parents helping out because their schools require it & don't feel comfortable dealing with complaints like this. However, the feis chair or another executive board member can do something. Been on the board for a feis for years. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. But thank you. -- Feis Can, 16:11:41 10/05/20 Mon (cpe-65-189-55-125.cinci.res.rr.com/65.189.55.125)

But which rules? and how to prove them? That is the trouble. If a school has different rules, how can you apply them without being the asshole and causing drama. Plus you can't force people to pay for changes at a Feis either. There's more to it than just saying "no you can't dance, you need to move up."
