make sure you got technics. decent pair of headphones as they do count!!!!!!!! Technics/Sony/Senheiser HD25 or HD25SP

nice pair of monitors, postioned well in the room. Try to keep them off the floor, ear level it poss.

Start deck one. Find the on beat of deck 2. Match the tempo with the pitch control. Count the beats in the bars as you go along in your head. 1 2 3 4 / 2 2 3 4 / 3 2 3 4 / 4 2 3 4. And cross fade when you think the tempo is matched.

Best way is to play around and get the feel. There are many topics on the web from beginners to advanced techniques.

Hi Becs, i know all that, but i think if you have someone else there telling you, you learn a lot quicker!! i know all about mixing, but need that bit of guidance. to have someone better listening etc.

Well if you know all that you should be well on your way.And shouldnt really need any guidance. Not unless you want to do backflips and headspinning while in the mix. Now thats another dimension. Cant help u out there.

True she may learn that bit faster if she has personal tuition but that is costly.Look how many dj academys there are in dj and see how much they charge.

The only was is to do it yourself sometimes or get some friends with the same intrests. Get togehter and share tips etc.

So why dont you both get together and do the above.

As for judgement of your own work make a mix tape. Dont worry if it sounds crap. Listen to it and listen to the good points in it. Then make another maybe a week later and keep doing so, until you can string 45-60 mins of fluid work together. Then go back and listen to one of your tapes you first made, beleive me its funny. Then you,ll realise how far you have come.

Give it out to your mates let them be them judge. Tell em its danny rampling or kenny dope in the mix and see if they can tell the diff. Then you,ll know if you are at a good level.

Everyone has to learn some get their slowly some get there fast but its the end result that counts.

Only one problem with the last suggestion - Danny Rampling's mixing is utter shite! If you want to hear a good mixer then Sasha is the one to follow...

yeah ok maybe his mixing is maybe not up to scratch. but hes done extremely well out of it hasnt he!!!!!!!!.

Like i,ve always said i,ve been to some tops nights and heard some top djs make real clangers. But i guess when you are at the top you can afford to play however you like and still get away with it. As most djs dictate to the promoters and not the other way round.

Its a name thing.

Some people would still buy Prada if they turned out cheap asia material.

So what can you do???

Don't get me wrong, Danny Rampling has done very well for a number of reasons, but he's not a great example to follow for his mixing abilities. Respect is due for the way he helped push the scene during the early days but a lot of the old hats are being shadowed by the rise of up and coming real talent thanks to competitions like Muzik magazine's 'Bedroom Bedlam'.

It would of course be nice to think that gone are the days of it all being about who you know but making contacts is essentially the secret. However, I'd rather hear a well mixed selection of good music from a total stranger than a dodgy clash of pots and pans from an old caner. An interesting debate and one that has fuelled many bedroom DJs I'm sure. At the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

What can I do? Well all I can suggest is that you come down to the Scotch on Thursday nights and check me out or listen to the show every Sunday 6 til 8pm.

My top tip for any budding DJ's is to lay off the booze whilst DJing...(easier said than done, I should know!!!)

Peace

Hello Bec

Seems that your topic of mixing has raised alot of points. But realistically all you need to do is practice. No-one can teach you how to mix it just happens (if u stick at it!!). Another issue within someone teaching you is that you will not develop your own style.

Take Care

The Boy Rogers (Midnight - 2am Sunday early morning)

P.S - Let the tunes do the talking !!!

mmmm Thanks for the offer i may take you up on it some day.

This topic is so huge and diverse I could talk about it for ages. There are no rules and regulations in this industry. Its just a case of pick ya records up start mixing and do what the fu+?K you want and hope u land on your feet.

Look how many people are out there mixing and look how many successful people are out there mixing.

Its either a hobby or a career.

Lets end this. Or we,ll all end up going round in political circles.
