Subject: "Answers?"
In reply to: Lieutenant Junior Grade Justin Grey 's message, "All the snow melted so quickly around their immediate vicinity..." on 15:44:00 08/12/01 Sun

The wizard stood slowly, brushing snow from his robes.

"Answers are what you seek? Or do you continue to lay blame, to find a scapegoat for your own failings? Perhaps you were as weak as I was, perhaps you were stronger. I wonder if you could have found the strength to go on after a century without form, fueled only by fear and loathing, ruling over the very ones whose deaths were the result of your "good intentions"? I think not, Justin Grey.

Do not act the part of the child your whole life; you have been a great hero in the past and you may again yet be. Once, not long ago, the paths of the future were open to me. Once I would have guided Mercado and his friends along that path, to insure the future I gleaned when the spice of Arrakis made me precognitive would not come to pass. Now, the possibilities are so maddeningly infinite I might well not see them at all! Once Mercado and Ebonhawk would have stood side-by-side with LEGOman, Dirge, Rynox, FawnDoo, the Bolt and countless other heros against the unspeakable evil that was TM II BoGoŽ. There would have been victory, but not without great cost. Now, though I still see many futures, that one remains hazy and uncertain. That is why I risk bringing Mercado here.

Something happened recently, something so universally significant that my words could never be adequate enough to convince you. Most continued unaware, but so thrown was I by the sudden lurch that I found my body unconscious, my spirit free to roam once more. I found myself cast into a realm of dream, yet it was more than that. No sooner had a memory or perhaps premonition of an old enemy taunted me than I found I was not alone. A faceless guide, perhaps nameless as well but calling himself "Biggs" so I would have something to call him no doubt, appeared to me. Somehow he had seen what I had seen, but discounted it, perhaps due to the personal nature of it. He led me deeper into the realm and, though my astral form should have been more powerful than the mortal one I once again wear, I found myself quite powerless. He spoke of a great evil that would threaten the SPUniverse entire, and then he showed me.

Never before had my prescience needed any assistance, but new was I to it still on Arrakis and with the shift in reality, even the unexpected was possible. He led me to a great mirror, where I witnessed an illusion or a warning. I saw my homeworld of Manar demolished, Starbase Rugby as well. Such total devastation was unthinkable! The vessels around it, even the NOVA*Beacon, all destroyed and in ruins. Whatever hit it hit it too quickly for there to have been much of a fight, nor a fair one. The vision pulled back even further though, to show me another world in the path of destruction leading to Manar, a world I believe to be Cybertron! I do not know what caused such meaningless obliteration, but wherever it comes from it is beyond Cybertron. Whatever it is is coming soon, and must NEVER get as far as it did in that vision. That was what I was shown; that is what we must stop.

Somewhere in that dream realm lies the key to stopping that. In my first life I was a pacifist, having grown up with war. You may all find that hard to believe but, nonetheless, it is true. I have never believed that might overcomes might, but my dream guide did. he spoke of an object of immense power capable of halting this destructive force once and for all. But, for whatever reason, it could not be carried back with my astral form. He gave me a scroll which COULD make the transition back to the real world; I do not understand why nor do I question the laws of that strange realm. With the words on this scroll though, I can open a portal into that realm by which we can enter PHYSICALLY and retrieve the object he spoke of! But this Biggs warned me that the gate, once opened, would be forever open. The world of dreams accessable to the awake world is a frightening prospect, so I chose this barren planetoid as the safest place to open the gate! Will you journey with me into Dah'Li, the realm of dreams? Will you save those you love?

I do not know how much time we have..."

Rana studied the faces around him. It was a pretty incredible tale and, as he retold it, parts of it didn't seem clear to even him. But in all his lifetimes he had learned not to question a vision, only to act on it, for they seldom were false, only misinterpreted. He prayed these men would rally to the cause before it was too late for everyone...

"For generally speaking, one can say the following about men: they are ungrateful,
inconsistent, feigners and dissimulators, avoiders of danger, eager for gain, and whilst it profits them they are all
yours. They will offer you their blood, their property, their life and their offspring when your need for them is
remote. But when your needs are pressing, they turn away. The prince who depends entirely on their words
perishes when he finds he has not taken any other precautions."
-Niccolo Machiavelli (translation Stephen J. Milner), 'The Prince'
