Subject: "Get ye BACK Paleguard!!"
In reply to: Cortex 's message, "Fifth's eagerness, coupled with Purge's driving will, might have been his downfall...." on 16:21:53 11/02/01 Fri

The Manarian wizard's cerulean eyes flared as he spoke, agitated but carefully still. As the only anchor to a party of brave souls who've journeyed into a universe of dreams, he was gravely aware of the importance that he remain absolutely still. The spell of reflection he had cast around himself remained intact following Fifth's nearly fatal attack, but he was not certain how long the spell would last, nor if he could safely bolster it while maintaining a way home for his questing allies. Reason would have to prevail where force was impossible, and he hoped it would buy him the time he needed....

"All of you....there are forces at work here which you do not yet understand, a impending doom against which my....'friends'...and I play a major role in several potential futures! That percentage has dwindled with your arrival. Fifth...please. You WILL regret this one day, though I know you are not responsible. There is a reason you remember Mu as your home, but not in the way you think. The day the Last Howler and his first Paleguard claimed you was a crucial turning point. Had I been alive then and known things the way I do now, I assure you I would have directed all my gifts against such an occurence. But I was dead then, imprisoned, a bundle of hatred and resentment brewing in a clearing outside Manar's Enchanted Forest, awaiting the day when the WR@ would emerge once more. I know what it is to do such unspeakable deeds in one frame of mind, and regret them in yet another.

Heed me, you others, consider the path you have embraced carefully. Consider what you have recieved, and what you will be called upon to give in return. Consider the PRICE. Is it worth it? Is any job or cause really worth it? This Nullspace you now wield; only one among your number has any real experience with it. How can the rest of you hope to control something you were not designed to wield? In several divergent futures, I see that power coming with a price as well.

The odds are stacking against the SPUniverse's survival. You may gain the chaos you seek, but will you be around to revel in it? Will you?

I know some things are fated. I know the certainty my gift granted me of future events is gone now, ever since the SPUniverse colla--ever since things CHANGED. I can say no more. I speak in riddles now not by choice but by necessity; I see so many things that may happen, and time grows short. The closer I get, the less possibilities there are. It is maddening to constantly filter such visions, but my time as WR@NA taught me to focus multiple impressions, if nothing else. If I must preserve my own sanity, and that which I am here to do, AND fend off your pointless chaotic attacks, I cannot promise that ANY of us will have a future for me to see.

Risk it if you must....some of you may waver...some may not. Decide; take your time and really DECIDE. For yourselves. Not for him. Not for me. For youselves."

Rana breathed heavy, his breath curling in the air, a white mist inversely reminiscent of a time he rejoiced to have behind him. In so many probable futures before him, the unthinkable happened. His words had swayed some of them, or at least given them pause. And that pause bought him the time he needed in several futures. The odds had shifted; he only hoped they had shifted enough...
