I didn't see but I enjoyed the original. I absolutely HAD to see it. And that's saying a lot because when I was younger I loathed science fiction.

First, I had so-so expectations for it. I read about how Edward James Olmos had told fans of the original (many of whom had spent much internet time gripe-ing about how this and that wasn't like the original) to watch the original if that is what they wanted because this would be totally different. It made me raise an eyebrow. Then I saw the previews for it and thought "hmmm, I'll have to give it a looksee".

I really enjoyed it. It had me on the edge of my seat which hasn't really happened at all which Enterprise which I've been watching to see what happens between Trip and T'pol since the show it otherwise mostly just okay.

I felt the sense of threat and urgency to their movements and decisions. I was on the concerned that they survive. I was drawn into hating Balthar especially when Boomer's collegue gave up his seat on the ship and thereby showing some of our best qualities to save this loathsome piece of rat turd who can't be bothered to feel even a twinge of concern that he was responsible for letting the cylons in through the back door to murder millions and millions of people!

I don't see any real reason why Starbuck has to be a man. I thought she totally rocked. =) I couldn't believe the stunt she pulled with Apollo's ship, but was totally "woooohoooo" along with her! I understand why the female cylon looks like a bombshell (her purpose is to seduce unwitting men after all) but appreciate that the rest of the women look real. I thought Mary McDonnell did a great job (and serves nicely as President). I liked the scene where she confessed her very human concerns about her cancer. Boomer was cool too.

I liked that the show doesn't whitewash humanity and shows its failings but still shows our hope and good aspects. I liked that it had a lot of emotion...between men! It's not something you see every day on tv, but they showed that Adama cared for his son, showed his XO try to give him some comfort when they believed him lost, and I liked the reconciliation between the two. Actually, I can extend the emotional quality to the whole show...I liked that the characters all had emotions and showed them, but that it was so well-played (and nicely underplayed) in many scenes.

At the end, I didn't really notice if the writing or dialogue was bad, because the actors sold me on it.

I'm rooting for these people to find their way home,

P.S. Can someone blast Baltar out an airlock for me please?

I thought the parting shot of the human/cylons implicating their 'sleeper agent' was a real cheap shot that diminished my enjoyment of the show considerably.

I liked that Starbuck and the Colonel did not reconcile, and for the reasons given.

Obviously we will see ads for a new Galactica series by summer.

If you have nothing else to watch on Sunday I recommend watching the 4 hours all at once (which is a LOT more than I can say about most tv these days).

Although I agree with Grim that the last shot of the "sleeper agent" was unnecessary. I'd been hoping it was Boxey.

Rewatching the first part, I realized that I completely bought into the notion that these people's world had been destroyed. The emotional connection made the scenes of the refuges and the presidential swearing in very powerful. There was enough conflict to keep it very interesting, but I never felt like it was overplayed.

Baltar is so incredibly slimy, and I'm a proponent of the psychotic break theory to explain how Six kept talking to him.

because he doesn't really seem to know that much more from Six's information than what his mind could have picked up on its own. I briefly wondered if perhaps he had been replaced by an cylon because I wasn't sure he could survive the explosion near his house, but my brother thought they couldn't possibly replace him with someone soooo snively.

I wasn't too sure how I felt about the parting shot, though I do like Boomer quite a bit so I'm concerned.

Just to not be completely gushing over it, the one scene that did break the action for me was the scene between the President and the little girl. Don't know if it was the little girls acting or the obvious pause in the action, but as most of the other stuff had been nicely underplayed that scene felt rather forced. I think they could have cut out the coversation and just left the part where her aid says that little girl you spoke to is on a sub-light speed ship.

I was also surprised they cremated the remains of the one cylon sample they had. I don't really think that the blood could be that identical (human blood is excedingly complicated to reproduce hence all the difficulty we have had in coming up for a replacement for when people need transfusion), but still they would need the body to continue working on a way to detect them. For a second I wondered if they could come up with a retinal scan like "Blade Runner".
