Well, having come into the D clan from another small, obscure, but enthusiastic group I seem to be experiencing this all over again. I now own a '02 ES but I traded a '91 Dodge Spirit R/T to get it. That Spirit got me membership in the Shelby Dodge Club, can you say obsure, I knew you could. That club and mailing list was very similar to this group in a lot of ways. It was populated by people who loved their cars, did everything possible to make them the look nice and perform better, had little/no support from the maker, and even less from the aftermarket vendors. And on top of it the cars sold for very small $$, everyone complained about it, but same people went on buying them when the became available for the short money.

Some of the things I learned are:
1) You can't make money on a nitch car
2) When the cars get to high mileage you better not use it as a daily driver
3) If you do it's gonna cost ya
4) People have to like the cars for what they are not what they think they will become
5) The people in the group are almost as important as the cars themselves
6) You have to just basically enjoy the experience of owning and caring for the car and be ready to put up with its down sides
7) When it becomes too much of a hastle or the joy and interest of owning is lost ya gotta move on.

I really like my D, but it is new and nice and I got it for a great deal (seriously, a new ES for around $26K with 0% financing is a very attractive deal for anyone looking for a new car in the <$30 range). It doesn't compare to a BMW in any way, that would have cost ~$10K more...

I really enjoy this list and the information and chat from the group of owners. I am always looking for "enhancements" and learning about the Whiteline strut brace was just exactly the sort of thing I appreciated.

However, I do realize that a D is not going to become a collectable car and I don't expect to go to antique car shows 20 years from now and see many, if any at all. But that doesn't matter because here and now I enjoy what I drive and I enjoy listening to all you guys bitching about it. It's like coming home again...
