During the month of December, I met with 2 of my proteges and conducted an iMovie workshop with them for a half day. Basically, we spent the time going through the iMovie Tutorial on the computer and then did a little work with using the digital video camera. I felt that it went quite well and now that they both have a better idea what iMovie is all about, I think they’re pretty excited to begin using it with their students. Over the next few weeks we are planning to meet to firm up the details of the project that the students will be working on during the 3rd and 4th quarter. I also feel that they need a little more practice in regards to the basic steps involved with importing a movie into iMovie so that will be on the agenda as well.

My 3rd protege and I have been working on computer basics during the semester. She continues to do very well and has really made a lot of progress. At the beginning of the school year, we focused on computer basics. Once BC was networked, the next goal was to get her using her email efficiently which I feel that she has now mastered. Our next step now is to have her learn Easy Grade Pro which we will be working on next week. I’ve really been impressed with this protege--she began not knowing how to turn the computer on and now I feel she is much more comfortable using technology.

Overall, I feel that the technology mentor program has been working quite well to this point. I have experienced ups and downs over the course of the first semester. Luckily, it seems like there have been more ups than downs. It has really been a good feeling to be helping teachers that want to learn about technology but maybe didn’t have the opportunity or time to learn before.
