During the fall my major activity was getting back into the rhythm of teaching and school life; a very different pace from that of working in central office. It also meant that I had to figure out where students were in their tech competancies and how the tech department worked with students. After finding out such things as when students get their user names, what they know and don't know about accessing the network, what type of home usage could be expected from students, I had to find out all of that for myself. Figuring out life with fool proof took awhile.

Also during the fall, Patti and Ellen and I met frequently to talk about our different experiences and have done some mega planning for all of our mentees, deciding that imovie and hyperstudio presentations would help all of our mentees.

Through the fall, my mentees had a clear idea of what they wanted to do with their project ( a history of Welsh Valley) and were clear about when they wanted to start..... spring, so over all I made myself available to them as a tech resource.... problem solving everyday types of problems. I presented Mimeo to the grade 6 science staff, and helped teachers use the presentation system with their classes. And we are doing a workshop on Inspiration for all of the WV mentees this week.
Other tasks were more menial.... how to make folders in outlook, organize email, created address books and groups for email, set up a grade book, dialing in from home and entering information on my learningplan.com.

Now that we are getting closer to the start of their project I have been thinking, along with them about how they can use the technolgoy for research and presentation. What information is available and where. Here Sue Pennington provided us with some insight about online research. Have students search the print resources first so that they are knowledgeable enough to know where to go on the web. We have talked about where students might begin their research and since their project is a multi year project, what is a reasonable outcome for the first year. Right now we are looking at how students can present their work. A web site is preferred so we are looking at providing the teachers with a workshop on Hyperstudio and imovie so that they can begin to think about what will go on the site.
