At the risk of being the object of derision, dislike and prejudice, I truthfully am Filipino, Spanish&Basque and Chinese in ancestry. And I know lot of other Filipinos like me. I was born, raised and educated in the Philippines and proud of it. While I never thought myself anything but a Filipino by birth and culture, there was strong Spanish influence in my upbringing, and a strong American influence in my education. A mixture of tagalog, visayan, spanish and english was spoken at home - i even understand and know ilocano and japanese words which i use to flavor my speech. I can accept all Filipinos as they are and/or the way they want to be regarded. Nobody has to conform to anybody's prerequisites of what Filipinos ought to be or behave. A Filipino CAN BE anything he wants to be ... isn't that what
freedom and tolerance are all about?
