In reply to: Pyeman WPBD 's message, "It's like the club doesn't have a plan for now and into the future" on 09:47 10/04/24 Wed

The current people in charge of the club have been around for 3 years. It's been the most enjoyable time to be a Pies supporter in recent history, under their leadership.

We've all applauded decision after decision.

It is inevitable there will be a lull somewhere along the line.

But why are we so quick to jump off them and not trust that they have a vision and a plan for the future? When so far they've largely gotten everything right.

And also, these aren't the same people who brought back Beams, picked up Wells, gave Treloar and Grundy ridiculous deals that we couldn't afford, caused the dreaded firesale, sacrificed pick after pick, etc.

They're the people that got our cap under control, brought in Mitchell, Hill, Markov, McStay, Frampton - all of whom were critical in winning the flag last year. They brought in Fly who I think most agree is a terrific coach. Off field, we seem to be flying again.

The worst thing you could say about the current regime is they gave away a 1st round pick for Schultz at a time where it was expected we would at least make a prelim-grand final without him... I don't think that's crime of the century and I still think he is/will be a good pickup for us. We'll never know who else we would (not could) have gotten instead.

I know it sucks watching us underperform in a year we were expected to do better. But we're one game outside the 8 in round 5. Plenty of time to turn it around yet.

I do have concerns for the short term future, in that I don't think we will be serious contenders. But I'm also not convinced it's avoidable. We may have to wear a couple of poor seasons to climb back to the top. That seems to be the way the system works in the AFL - for every team, not just us.
