Small steel grey eyes peered out from underneath an evergreen, the reddish-gold fur hidden in places by the shade it provided and the yellowish white underside more so by the ground it was hunched down to. Tor’s ears swiveled nervously around listening to the birds and the soft shifting of leaves as the occasional breeze went through the other tree branches. The 8 week old pup smelled other wolves in the area, she would be in trouble if they found her.

It was more of a thought to herself but Tor didn’t want to get eaten, the mother that she had been with had said the lights would gobble her up, she wasn’t sure exactly what they were like but her mother’s description of them was terrifying. Of course this was her mother, the same mother that had dumped her out in the wilderness hoping she would get eaten or die from the elements and had marred her fur with scars still visible in places along her body, her mother hadn’t been the only one to inflict such wounds.

Tor sniffed the air, it was hard to believe this place was dangerous with all the curious things she was seeing but as she had learned, looks can be deceiving. Tor’s paws were sore and the pads worn raw from running around constantly for the past few days making them ache in protest, she had finally collapsed under the tree thinking she would be safe here till she had to move again. A small whimper slid from her throat as her stomach growled furiously, she hadn’t eaten in a while, the scrawny look she had was proof enough.

Another whimper came out and she quickly silenced herself hoping that no one heard it, Tor listened for a minute holding in a breath before letting it out as her head lowered and settled on her forpaws. A small patch of sun light between the branches shifted and landed on the edge of her muzzle showing the only black patch of fur she had just above her nose. The light that shown between the branches was warm on her fur and she relished it, dark would be here soon and then she would be cold again.
