Subject: Multiple regions in the US have tied themselves in knots trying to make adult competitions work and this has only confused and alienated adult dancers.
In reply to: Simple and equitable 's message, "Let’s give the adults the dignity they deserve. All adult-specific competitions needs to be dropped and age groups need to be expanded." on 11:55:01 07/02/24 Tue

Every region has gone haywire trying to make up their own version of a competitive adult division. You have masters, adult grades, adult championships, advanced adults, etc. It's an absolute mess and has provided adult dancers with no consistency from year to year. Dancers at our school have been so discouraged by the constant rule changes and lack of any formal qualifications or rankings that many have given up.

Like the original poster said, the way you fix this is to simply add more age groups to the current system. We have single year age groups and then arbitrarily lump everyone else into over 20 for gents and over 22 for ladies.

CLRG is missing out on a TON of money from adults who want to remain competitive at the world level. Look how huge the adult competitions are at regional Oireachtases and NAIDC. There are more than enough dancers to justify an under 30, under 40, 40 and over, etc and give them an actual competition with qualifying status!!

Is CLRG not under massive money constraints? Is CLRG's mission not to promote Irish dancing to ALL people? This would be an incredible way to expand Irish dancing to everyone who wants to dance in meaningful competitions.

  • There aren’t enough dancers to warrant that many adult splits (NT) -- …, 02:36:57 07/03/24 Wed
  • Start with 1-2, Under 25 and then Over 25 and an Over 35 if needed. Registrations will determine. Some US regions have loads, UK and Ireland don't foster any adult growth and need to start at the beginning (NT) -- k, 05:29:26 07/03/24 Wed
