Subject: Mom of new OC dancer, more inside
In reply to: Some questions on judging … 's message, "Mom of a competition dancer here (contemporary and jazz mostly). New to ID." on 07:09:06 10/21/24 Mon

The comments my dancer receives at feisanna are the same comments she’s getting from her teacher. They are general- extension, arch more, nice attack etc. my dancer tries to not get the same comments twice, and even better, to reverse the comments. 3 weeks ago she was getting “ arch more” comments, now she is getting “nice arches “ so it’s a really great way to track their progress, and we focus on those small judge comments as personal “wins” regardless of placing, which helps to keep the dancer focused on their own improvements - which is within their control— while a judge liking their particular style, which dancers are competing that day, etc are not within her control.

  • Our school now has a conditioning class because of a senior dancer who got her degree in that area and is qualified to teach it well. It's great to have! Some classes offer it from their TCs. (NT) -- dm, 06:51:50 10/28/24 Mon
  • This is a very good point - nothing on the TCRG qualifies you as a strength and conditioning coach. Having studied the topic, I confirmed that everything I'd ever been taught was wrong. So just be cautious of any coaching offered by TCs in this area as it might not be evidence-based practice. (NT) -- It also might be!just be aware, 05:37:59 10/29/24 Tue
