Subject: NAIDC is the first competition of the competitive year. Dancers who go to worlds have only 2-3 months to get new choreography ready.

A late April worlds means those dancers have just over 2 months to get new material ready. Anyone who didn’t go could start on their new dances as early as October of the previous year.

Another consideration is that NAIDC is HUGE with dozens of top-10 Oireachtas WQs in every competition plus many of the top overseas dancers. It’s impossible for results to have any level of consistency when you have 150+ dancers per split and most are indistinguishably as good as each other.

A top 10 Oireachtas dancer could be 20th at NAIDC one year and 40th the following year for no reason other than 2 or 3 marks going for or against them.
