You won't get that money back. Period.

There are two ways you MIGHT get money back. The first is to insure your trip, making sure the known reason you might have to cancel is covered. (Read the policy, not the summary). Travel insurance cost money, too, and Cancel For Any Reason coverage isn't cheap.

The second way would be to sell your reservation to another family who is looking for a room. This, of course, isn't guaranteed, as you can't know now who might be looking for a room at the last minute.
