If you get a room in the venue, you would probably be able to transfer it. But, if I could not get into the venue hotel now, I would wait. It could be hard to find someone to take the reservation.

There are always rooms that open up. People book and then plans change. You might be able to help someone out by taking their reservation.

My only caveat to this is if you have a need for multiple rooms or need to be in a specific hotel, you might want to book right away.

You don’t have to go along with all the room block crazy just because everyone else does.

(Full disclosure-sometimes I really want to be in the venue hotel and go all crazy; and sometimes it just doesn’t matter where we stay so I don’t. )
