Subject: Not OP and I don't advocate cheating. But OP has a good point. Once the host hotel is full, the event organizers have nothing to gain.

And when priced appropriately, there's no way a block of rooms at the host hotel would not sell out for nationals. Too many people want to be at the main venue. Though, given summer pricing, it is nice to have negotiated rates at other hotels near the main venue since it's certain the main one will sell out. But no need to force everyone to stay in the hotel block.
