The other difference between a normal pastor and a UBF "pastor", a normal Christian leader and a UBF "leader" is that you will not find such willful boasting in a normal Christian leader even if he has led many people to Christ. Contrast that with people like Sam Lee who told people how much "God used him" at every opportunity. The culture of UBF encourages such boasting, such pride, such self-aggrandizement and exaggeration. You can hear such boasting in the sogams that are shared at every fellowship and "leaders" meeting. All these things tend to squeeze out grace, which is the heart and foundation of the gospel message that UBF claims to preach.

"UBF is not about finding 'recruits', but about making
disciples and preaching the gospel."

This is directly contradicted by the heavy numbers emphasis that still exists in UBF. Even words like "disciples" and "gospel" can be loaded words in UBF. Why do the majority of recruits leave UBF and not set foot in it again, even though they may retain "cordial" relations with their former "shepherds?" I think it's pretty much because they see that UBF's definition of "discipleship" includes all those elements that peg UBF as a cult or abusive church: heavy emphasis on human obedience, exclusivity, tithing by compulsion, attendance by compulsion, disrupted or broken relationships with family and the backbreaker: arranged marriage.
